BEATRIX A. WOOD
A passion for sculpting intimate & epic stories propels my life
I make films about what compels & excites me
I dig deep from many angles
to bring out the emotional truth of a story
with a writer’s soul & an artist’s eye
I film with my cameras
enabling contributors to share their ideas & experiences
I explore style, tone & technique
edit, hone & hew the structure
juxtaposing visceral images & narrative layers
to reach into the hearts & minds of audiences
inspiring, moving & challenging people around the world.
Behind The Scenes shooting “Maorach: Hebridean Shellfish”: Outer Hebrides, Larkhall, Edinburgh & Catalonia.
From mythical boy heroes, rock stars, murder mysteries, fall guys and conscripts on the run to innovative artists, nature friendly farmers, reindeer herders & lobster fishermen, Beatrix makes internationally award-winning films.
Beatrix is passionate about how to improve human existence & our interaction with each other through visual storytelling. Deep concern with all that is awry is balanced by optimism that stories help make sense of the world we live in, offer alternative narratives to change behaviour, experience & expectation, & imagine positive ways to go forward.
She graduated from film school in Manchester with a Special Commendation. She trained in feature film production & has extensive experience in international co-production and story editing.
As a Screenwriter & Producer, she collaborated with Finnish Director Pekka Lehto for 20 years on political & cultural documentaries for ARTE, DR, ETV, MDR, NRK, SDR, SVT, WDR & YLE. Their films featured in many festivals, won many prizes & were distributed in cinemas & worldwide on TV.
As a self-shooting Director/Producer, Beatrix has made films for BBC Alba, BBC Scotland, Channel 4 & STV. Her latest film won 5 international prizes, including Best UK Woman Director - Documentary on Climate Change, My Name Is Climate Festival 2025.

Work In Progress
2025-26 HomeMovie
An elegiac multimedia installation and artist’s film. In parallel to my creative work I have been a nature-friendly farmer in Cornwall and the Outer Hebrides. Whilst working on the land, I have created a body of work in response to those experiences: poems & stories, drawings, paintings, photographs, video. I have also collected artefacts – skulls, hides, feathers, fur, bones, horns – derived from the farming. These elements are the starting point for “HomeMovie”. It’s about: connection to the land, native animals and trees, the quest to build a home. Dreams and nightmares. Life-death-life cycles. Love and loss. R&D funded by ArtsD&G Support for Ambition award.
